Clinical/Applied Epidemiology
This area builds the skills of health professionals, students, and community health workers to apply epidemiological methods in real-life health challenges.
Key elements include:-
- Fundamentals of Epidemiology:Training on disease patterns, risk factors, and methods for understanding the distribution and determinants of health conditions.
- Disease Surveillance: Strengthening capacity for case reporting, outbreak detection, and use of mobile/digital tools for real-time monitoring.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Teaching participants how to design surveys, collect community health data, and use statistical tools to analyze health trends.
- Outbreak Investigation: Simulating real-world outbreak investigations (e.g., cholera or schistosomiasis cluster) and teaching systematic approaches to case finding, contact tracing, and response.
- Evidence-Based Decision Making: Training on how to use data to guide interventions, policy-making, and resource allocation.
- One Health Approach: Introducing the links between human, animal, and environmental health, and how applied epidemiology can address cross-cutting health threats.
