Community Health Education
This area focuses on empowering local communities with knowledge, skills, and tools to improve their own health.
Key elements include:-
- Health Literacy: Training community members to understand disease causes, prevention methods, and available health services.
- Behavior Change Communication (BCC): Designing culturally appropriate education strategies (e.g., theatre, storytelling, posters, radio) to encourage healthy behaviors such as handwashing, safe water use, and proper sanitation.
- School and Youth Engagement: Equipping teachers, peer educators, and youth leaders to promote awareness of diseases like schistosomiasis, HIV/AIDS, malaria, and reproductive health issues.
- Community Dialogue: Using participatory approaches (focus groups, village meetings) to dispel myths, reduce stigma, and build trust in modern health services.
- School and Youth Engagement: Equipping teachers, peer educators, and youth leaders to promote awareness of diseases like schistosomiasis, HIV/AIDS, malaria, and reproductive health issues.
- Sustainability: Training community health volunteers or “health champions” who can continue spreading knowledge beyond the workshop.
